- Please ensure that all data is backed up in the appropriate NYU cloud locations such as BOX, Google Drive etc. We are not responsible for lost data.
- Right-click on the Start menu and then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
- In the Windows Update window that opens, select the Check for updates button.
- If Windows 11 is ready to be installed on the device, a message is displayed in the Windows Update window showing that Windows 11 is ready. Select the Download and install button to start the Windows 11 upgrade.
- In the Software License Terms window that opens, select the Accept and install button.
- Once the installation is complete the window will refresh and prompt for a restart.
If you do not see an update available please refer to the steps below.
PC Health Check
- Download Windows Health Check App from the following link: https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp
- Right-click download and install the Health Check App.
- Once the app is downloaded, search PC Health Check in the search bar.
- Open the app, then check the Windows Update section.
- You can then click Open Windows Update.
- You can then click download and install on the Windows 11 update. Please note that this can take about an hour and requires your laptop to be plugged into a power source. We recommend doing this after you’ve finished your work for the day.
Windows PC Health check will also let you know if your machine is unable to update to Windows 11. If this is the case, please contact at Steinhardt.Technology@nyu.edu for next steps or click the Submit Request button below.
