What is a course refresh?
Before a course needs to run again (say the next year or the next term), several things need to happen. To refresh the course. First, we need to roll over the site from the Master copy to the official course site which is linked to Albert. Second, we review a checklist of updates (open/close assignment dates, gradebook set up, reorganize the toolbar, reactivate forums, etc.).
The entire course refresh process may take up to 3 weeks and we need to be alerted of the refresh about 6-8 weeks in advance since we might have to do up to 25-course refreshes at one time.
How do I request a Course Refresh?
If you will need Steinhardt’s Office of Digital Innovation & Learning to complete a Course Refresh for you for the upcoming semester, please notify DIL at least 6-8 weeks before the start of the semester. Due to the volume of course refresh requests DIL receives each semester, these courses are completed on a first-come, first-served, basis. Please do not submit requests more than 8 weeks out.
Digital Innovation & Learning will not automatically be able to make changes to the course site outside of restoring and ensuring it looks the same as the Master copy. If you need changes to your site (i.e., new content, a video changed, a new assignment added, etc.) those requests will need to be placed separately by emailing steinhardtDIL@nyu.edu. Those requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis, although we will do our absolute best to meet your course needs.
Does the Teaching Faculty participate in the refresh?
Yes, we can’t do it without them! While we will do much of the technical work, we rely on the faculty to help us with due dates, opening/closing dates of the course modules, arranging student groups, etc. Much of the refresh is contingent on faculty participation and responsiveness. It helps us if you are able to edit the due dates, assignments, etc. If you need us to make these edits, please provide us with all the necessary date adjustments ASAP. We will move on to another course refresh request while we wait for your information.
